We’re delighted to announce the great news that we are bringing a NEW Repair Cafe to Stretford!
Repair Cafes are free events open to the whole community, where you can get help fixing a variety of broken household items including bikes, computers, clothing and electricals. Run by skilled volunteers, the aim of the events is to reduce waste but also to pass on important skills and provide a space for people to get to know their neighbours. There are tools and advice on hand, as well as hot drinks (and often cake!). The Repair Cafe movement began in the Netherlands in 2009 and there are now 2,000 Repair Cafes worldwide, nearly 100 across the UK and five in Greater Manchester – with more on the way!
The first event will be launched on the day of the Big FIx. The BIG FIX 2022 aims to be Britain’s biggest Repair Cafe. On Saturday 14th May, hundreds of volunteers at Repair Cafes across the country are participating in a nationwide day of repair events. The BIG FIX 2022 is coordinated by Recycle Devon and Devon County Council in partnership with all participating Repair Cafes.
The new Stretford Repair Cafe will take place on Saturday 14th May from 10am-12pm at Stitched Up, Unit 40 Stretford Mall. Details on which items you can bring on the day will be shared a few days before the event, as this is dependent on the skills of the volunteers in attendance on the day.
Going forwards, Stretford Repair Cafe will take place on the second Saturday of every month.

Volunteers are indispensable to Repair Cafes and we would love to hear from anyone who’s interested in helping out. Skills in fixing things (clothing/textiles, mechanical/electrical items, bikes or anything else!) are always needed, but by no means essential – we also need help with organising and hosting the events and assisting visitors. So if you can spare a couple of hours per month to do something great for your community, get in touch!
