This May, Stitched Up was busy delivering phase one of this exciting project working with young people from primary and secondary schools across Manchester.

‘Tee of Life’ is a partnership between Stitched Up, C.T.E.M. Co-op Academies Trust, Manchester Fashion Week and Delivered across 9 Co-op Academies Trust schools.

Over two sessions, Stitched Up worked with the young people to explore the environmental and human impacts of fast fashion, including water pollution, waste and poor working conditions. We then helped them to creatively respond by designing an upcycled t-shirt which carried their own ideas for the future of fashion. After designing, we helped them to realise their ideas through the use of applique, cut and slash techniques, embroidery, fabric painting and lots more. The result was an incredible collection of 150 uniquely reworked t-shirts, that will be assembled into one giant art piece to be shown during Manchester Fashion Week.

We were blown away by the students’ ideas and creativity and can’t wait for the big reveal!
