We are collaborating with Friends of Victoria Park Stretford to create a natural dye garden in the heart of Stretford.

Over the next four years we’ll be establishing an open-access natural dye garden in Victoria Park.

  • Involve local people in all areas of developing the project via a volunteer programme
  • Drum up enthusiasm for natural dyes via monthly, free, family-friendly workshops
  • Enlist natural dye experts to share their knowledge via a programme of Masterclasses
  • Provide local makers with a source of dyestuffs
  • Create an online Knowledge Bank where we can share our natural dyeing successes (and failures) with each other and the wider community

So far, we have been doing some research, designing the garden (see plan below) and putting together a plant list, as well as prepping our growing area, though there’s plenty more of that to do!

Our Project Worker Jo is sharing monthly updates on our blog, so you can check out what we’ve been up to.

See upcoming workshops and Masterclasses here. We have lots more to come in 2024, so keep an eye out for updates to the programme. If you’re interested in hosting one, or want to suggest a topic, get in touch!

If you’re interested in joining our volunteer team, you can see and sign up for sessions on the Friends of Victoria Park website – see ‘Schedule’ on the right hand side of the page. Our Project Workers Jo and Sarah are running two sessions per week at the moment. Do please sign up beforehand, otherwise you may have a wasted trip. We sometimes need to cancel or rearrange sessions due to the weather and conditions and if you’re signed up we can keep you informed of any changes.

If you’re interested in chatting more to us about the project, have some ideas or recommendations for us, or anything else, feel free to drop us a line.
