In the dark of December 2023, we took part in Where the Light Gets In’s Responsive Resource series. Through this twelve month programme they aim to explore the way we interact with natural resources, building a community and sharing ideas through a series of workshops, panel discussions, screenings, dinners, exhibitions, community art programmes and celebrations.

The first topic was wool, and we were honoured to play a part by bringing together work from all of the programmed workshops to help create the final piece. They invited members of the community to create textile pieces to culminate in a communal wall hanging to be displayed in the new year.

Our role was to guide the community in a quilting and appliqué workshop, bringing together the woollen textiles created throughout the Responsive Resource Series. Culminating in a communal wall hanging to be exhibited at Where the Light Gets In.

With a focus on wool, this was a hand stitch workshop where participants learned embroidery and assembly skills. It was a collaborative act of forming these individual pieces into a large set of banners, where the wool samples worked in dialogue with each other.

Thank you so much to When the Light Gets in for trusting us with helping create a final piece from the workshops and samples. We adore the final result, and it looks incredible in their beautiful restaurant. Check out the other artists and practitioners involved in the project here
