Sarah and Charlotte took our sewing machines and our mending supplies on the road to run a reworking workshop for Future Directions. Future Directions is a Community Interest Company who work with people with complex needs in the North West. We love working with them, and this was no exception!
The focus of this workshop was to learn ways to change up clothing that already exists to make it work for you. Clothing that stays in circulation is clothing that is not ending up in landfill as waste, so it’s really important to share the skills needed to mend and personalise clothing.

We were at their wonderful River Beale Cafe, a community hub space in Rochdale with the aim of reducing social isolation, and fostering community. Our workshop leaned into their values, focusing on being a supporting and social environment for the participants.
Some people hand sewed buttons, others gave embroidery a go. We even had a couple of people brave the sewing machine for the first time, and they all did amazingly well.

We’re already planning more workshops with Future Directions, which is very exciting. Would you like Stitched Up to come to your group or organisation? Fill in this simple form, and we can start making plans for an event or workshop that’ll be perfect for you.
