Restarting Chorlton repair cafe has been one of our highlights of 2024. But it’s not just your average repair cafe. This time we’ve been supporting a brilliant bunch of volunteers to take on the running of this repair cafe themselves – thanks to support from In Our Nature.

For the past six months we’ve been supporting with the running of the event itself, helping them build confidence in their repair skills, and setting up processes for booking in repairs, record-keeping, publicising events, processing donations and organising volunteer shifts, as well as the boring-but-essential stuff like insurance and setting up a bank account.

We were lucky to find a fantastic venue in the St. Margaret’s Centre on Brantingham Road in Chorlton. The team there have been really supportive of the project and will be continuing to host the events going forwards.

Quick aside for those in the area; Carbon Co-op are running a free DIY Draught-Proofing Course at the St Margaret’s Centre on 14th November – just in time to get your home winter-ready!

The repair cafes have been going really well and we’ve collected so much positive feedback from our visitors, which has been a joy to see.

After the November event (Sat 9th November) our involvement ends and they’ll be taking the project forwards into the future. We just know they’re going to make it a huge success.

If you’ve been meaning to visit or volunteer, please do reach out to them – they are a wonderful group of people working hard to create a permanent resource for the Chorlton community and they’d love to have your support!

You can still find out about upcoming events via the Chorlton Repair Cafe Facebook page, and the group’s new email address is chorltonrepaircafe@gmail.com.
