It’s with enormous excitement that we announce the creation of Manchester’s first Repair Café!
Thanks to a Sport Relief Community Cash grant, we will be running a monthly Repair Café from this July.
For those not familiar with the term, a Repair Café is a free meeting place where people get together to repair things. The first Repair Café was held in Amsterdam in 2009, and since then they have grown into a global network of menders. You can read more about their history here.
The Manchester Repair Café will be a free to use, drop in service, run by volunteers and open to all. Participants can attend this drop in service once a month to learn from expert volunteers the skills to fix clothes, furniture, electronics, bikes and technology.
As passionate menders and upcyclers, we are super excited about this project and CANNOT wait to begin! But to bring it all together, WE NEED YOU!
We’re looking for:
- Volunteers to help out at the Cafés once a month
- Volunteer repairers with skills in fixing furniture, electronics, bikes and technology
- Donations (or lenders) of tools which would come in handy for mending the above items.
- People to help spread the word!
If you can offer any kind of help, skills or advice, get in touch! We’d be delighted to hear from you on hello [at] stitchedup.coop
