On Monday 24th June we took part in the School Citizen Assembly event which was held at Manchester Museum.

It brought together young people from a number of local primary schools to learn about climate change and discover ways they could take meaningful action in their own communities.
The day started with talks on climate change and then delegates browsed the Marketplace. Here, we and other local organisations shared info on the climate impacts of various things including travel, food and, of course, clothes! We also shared various ideas for actions that they might like to take forward.
Next the young people were to choose a climate action that they’d like to bring to life within their own school or community.

We love the idea of school citizen’s assemblies (and of citizens assemblies in general), so it was an absolute pleasure to be there sharing ways to reduce the climate impacts of clothing.
We spoke to some really engaged young people and some who were already big repair and upcycling fans, which we always love to see! Many of our visitors were new to the understanding of how clothing production contributes to climate change, so it was great to share our knowledge with them and show them how they could make a change within their school or community.
We can’t wait to see all the actions the delegates choose to take forward. What a positive initiative! Thanks so much to the organisers for inviting our contribution.
