Why your company should run an employer supported volunteer day with Stitched Up

We’ve loved running our employer supported volunteer days (sometimes known as corporate volunteering) at our HQ in Bridge 5 Mill. We’ve welcomed lots of different businesses, large to small, into our world of sustainable fashion. Our Employer Supported Volunteer Days start at £265, and we typically run a day we call “Fabric Frenzy”, which focuses on textile waste and reuse.

We’ve compiled the reasons why your company should run an employer supported volunteer day with Stitched Up into an internet friendly list:

  • Increased wellbeing
    • The National Council for Volunteering Organisations (NCVO) found that the majority of volunteers surveyed found an increase in wellbeing from their volunteer work. Helping the environment through your work gives you a sense of fulfillment, and a knowledge of making a positive impact.
  • Helping our cause
    • Stitched Up is a Community Benefit Society, a Not-for-Profit which aims to inspire action on sustainable fashion. One of the ways we do this is by taking in textile donations from individuals and organisations and making them available for affordable prices for local creative reuse. By taking part in Fabric Frenzy you’ll not only be making an impact on the day, but supporting but supporting the continuation of our work; keeping textiles from landfill and making creative outlets more accessible to everyone.
  • Team building
    • During Fabric Frenzy you’ll be working together as a team for different types of tasks than you may usually tackle on a normal workday. This helps with team building, and increased cohesion within the group.
  • Learning about textile waste and community driven solutions to it
    • Throughout the event Stitched Up will be teaching you about the global textile waste problem, and what Stitched Up’s doing to combat it.
    • You’ll learn about the human and environmental costs of fast fashion, and ways you and your organisation can make a positive difference.
  • Rewarding employees
    • Our sessions come with refreshments provided as standard, and our venue Bridge 5 Mill has a variety of rooms for hire if you’d like to combine the Fabric Frenzy session with meetings, a fully catered event, or a self-led  activity either before or after. You can book through their website.
    • We also offer a variety of workshops, which you can view here, which you can pair with a Fabric Frenzy session. If you’re unable to make it to us, we can come to you – just get in touch through our workshop booking form.
  • Tangible Impact
    • your group will receive a certificate upon completion of the session detailing the textiles you helped divert from landfill and the CO2 saved.

We’re always looking for volunteers to help with our causes, so if you’re thinking of taking your employees on a corporate volunteer day, consider Stitched Up! You can contact us by emailing hello@stitchedup.coop
