Stretford Repair Café – The Big Fix [May 2022]
For those not familiar with the term, a Repair Café is a free meeting place where people get together to repair things. The first Repair Café was held in Amsterdam in 2009, and since then, have grown into a global network of menders. You can read more about their history here.
Our new Stretford Repair Café will launch on the 14th of May for The Big Fix. The Big Fix is Britain’s BIGGEST repair cafe! All around the country, fixers are gathering to fix more items in one day than ever before.
The Stretford Repair is a free to use, drop in community event, run by volunteers and open to all. Visitors can attend our Repair Cafe every SECOND Saturday of a month to learn from expert volunteers the skills to fix broken clothes, furniture, electronics, bikes, and technology.
There’s no need to book – just turn up on the day with your broken item. We ask that you only bring one item, so that we can ensure everyone ges some time with a ‘fixpert’. The event runs from 10am-12pm, and the last repair will be booked in at 11:30am.
While our volunteers are skilled in various repairs, they don’t offer a guarantee that your item can be fixed, nor will they single-handedly do the work for you! The Repair Café is all about getting people fixing things together – equally focused on sharing skills and meeting new people. We encourage everyone to stick around for a cup of tea and to chip in with advice and ideas for other visitors’ repairs.
We’re looking for lots of lovely people to get involved in the running of this event. If you’d like to volunteer on the day or lend/donate some tools, please get in touch
