The True Cost Screening: Stitched Up Film Club
Stitched Up Film Club is a new series of monthly-ish get-togethers for our community, volunteers and staff. We’ll watch a film about fashion, share some snacks and perhaps do some mending while we watch. Anyone who’d like to is welcome to stick around afterwards to chat about what we’ve seen. We’ll allow up to 30 minutes for this and then tidy up together.
Each film will cover a different topic but might include fashion’s environmental impacts or workers rights issues. Some might be quite heavy and others more light-hearted – we’ll try to mix it up. Send us your requests – this is your Film Club so let us know what you’d like to see!
This month, we’ll be watching The True Cost. This film was released in 2015, and is credited by many as inspiring their move towards sustainable fashion. It’s a great film to watch if you don’t know too much about the impact of the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh. And it’s also a really eye opening overview of the fast fashion industry, certain to move you to take action!
If you’ve already seen it (like us), come along and watch it again to reignite that fire!

“This is a story about clothing. It’s about the clothes we wear, the people who make them, and the impact the industry is having on our world. The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically. The True Cost is a groundbreaking documentary film that pulls back the curtain on the untold story and asks us to consider, who really pays the price for our clothing?
Filmed in countries all over the world, from the brightest runways to the darkest slums, and featuring interviews with the world’s leading influencers including Stella McCartney, Livia Firth and Vandana Shiva, The True Cost is an unprecedented project that invites us on an eye opening journey around the world and into the lives of the many people and places behind our clothes.”

Pay what you can – donations help to cover our overheads and the costs of hiring the film.
*PLEASE RSVP BELOW* if you’re coming along, so we can let you know if there are any last-minute event changes.
Hot drinks and popcorn available for a donation, or you’re welcome to bring your own snacks. If you’d like to share them, that’s lovely!
