RiverBlue screening: Stitched Up Film Club
Stitched Up Film Club is a new series of monthly-ish get-togethers for our community, volunteers and staff. We’ll watch a film about fashion, share some snacks and perhaps do some mending while we watch. Anyone who’d like to is welcome to stick around afterwards to chat about what we’ve seen. We’ll allow up to 30 minutes for this and then tidy up together.
Each film will cover a different topic but might include fashion’s environmental impacts or workers rights issues. Some might be quite heavy and others more light-hearted – we’ll try to mix it up. Send us your requests – this is your Film Club so let us know what you’d like to see!
The first film we’ll be watching is RiverBlue. It’s one that lots of us have been meaning to watch for AGES, so we’ve decided to set a date to watch it together and invite you along too.
“Following international river conservationist, Mark Angelo, RIVERBLUE spans the globe to infiltrate one of the world’s most pollutive industries, fashion. Narrated by clean water supporter Jason Priestley, this groundbreaking documentary examines the destruction of our rivers, its effect on humanity, and the solutions that inspire hope for a sustainable future. Through harsh chemical manufacturing processes and the irresponsible disposal of toxic chemical waste, one of our favourite iconic products has destroyed rivers and impacted the lives of people who count on these waterways for their survival. RIVERBLUE brings awareness to the destruction of some of the world’s most vital rivers through the manufacturing of our clothing, but will also act as a demand for significant change in the textile industry from the top fashion brands that can make a difference.”
Film run time: 1 hour 35 minutes.
If films have a certification, this will be noted below, but otherwise there is no age restriction for these events.
If you can arrive at 6:30pm to help us set up we always appreciate it! The Mall will be closed, but here’s how to get to us.
We’ll start the film at 6:45pm.
After the film you can head straight home or stick around for a chat, but either way, if you can tidy up after yourself and others that is a huge help.
Pay what you can – donations help to cover our overheads and the costs of hiring the film.
*PLEASE RSVP BELOW* if you’re coming along, so we can let you know if there are any last-minute event changes.
Hot drinks and popcorn available for a donation, or you’re welcome to bring your own snacks. If you’d like to share them, that’s lovely!
