Social Fabric [August 2021]

Supported by the Coop 1% Fund Social Fabric is a new project which aims to reduce social isolation and boost wellbeing by bringing together wonderful humans who love sewing and want to use their skills for good!

We are holding fortnightly meetups and working together to make upcycled textile items for local causes and charities. The projects we work on will be decided collectively by the group, but might include anything from syringe bags for local hospitals, to banners for campaigns that are close to our makers’ hearts. The first project we are working on is making toiletry bags for people entering emergency accommodation via the Booth Centre.

This project is aimed at adults facing mental health challenges or social isolation and anyone aged 18+ who feels that they would benefit. The group provides a safe and supportive environment in which to learn and share new skills and get to know peers in your community with common interests and who face similar issues.

Due to the lifting of Covid restrictions, we have been able to incease the capacity at these sessions, and applications for Social Fabric are now open again. We will still be operating in a covid secure manner, with masks and social distancing.
