A Big, Bikey Chorlton Repair Café
Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
This month, Chorlton Repair Cafe is going BIG on bikes!
Were huge fans of two-wheeled transport here at Stitched Up Towers, so as part of Big Bike Revivial, we are bringing you a morning of FREE bike stuff.
Or get involved with some upcycling workshops: make your own seat cover from a broken tent or umbrella, and ‘Bling your Bike’ with some upcycled hi viz accessories. The workshops are suitable for age 6+ (with an accompanying adult please for ages 6-12).
Bike events begin at 9:30am and run until 12:30pm. Drop-in anytime between 9:30am-12:30pm for:
- Bike maintenance and repair service
- Upcycled Seat Cover workshop
- Bling Your Bike workshop
All workshops are competely FREE to attend, thanks to funding from Cycling UK’s Big Bike Revival.
We will still have our usual Chorlton Repair Cafe from 10am-12pm, so you can also bring along items of clothing and electrical items for help fixing those too (read more below).
Here’s to a freewheelin’ summer!

For those not familiar with the term, a Repair Café is a free meeting place where people get together to repair things. The first Repair Café was held in Amsterdam in 2009, and since chothen, have grown into a global network of menders. You can read more about their history here.
The Chorlton Repair Café is a free to use, drop in community event, run by volunteers and open to all. Visitors can attend once a month to learn from expert volunteers the skills to fix broken clothes, furniture, electronics, bikes, and technology.
There’s no need to book – just turn up on the day with your broken item. The event runs from 10am-12pm, and the last repair will be booked in at 11:30am.
While our volunteers are skilled in various repairs, they don’t offer a guarantee that your item can be fixed, nor will they single-handedly do the work for you! The Repair Café is all about getting people fixing things together – equally focused on sharing skills and meeting new people. We encourage everyone to stick around for a cup of tea and to chip in with advice and ideas for other visitors’ repairs.
We’re looking for lots of lovely people to get involved in the running of this event. If you’d like to volunteer on the day or lend/donate some tools, please get in touch using firstname.lastname@example.org
