This week is Volunteers’ Week, and all week we will be celebrating the huge contribution made by volunteers both to the work of Stitched Up and the third sector in general.
Every day we will be sharing the thoughts of our amazing, enthusiastic team of volunteers, who help out with everything from events, workshops, admin and outreach.
Today, hear from Ursula, one of the first expert repairers to join our Manchester Repair Café project. Ursula volunteers her bike repairing skills at our event every month, helping our visitors learn to fix their own bikes.
Ursula says she gained lots that she didn’t expect from volunteering at Manchester Repair Café. “I’ve met lovely people and made new friends. Also, I have expanded my network of people who can help me fix my broken stuff and have called on this network outside of the Repair Café.”
“It’s lovely to be doing something that I think is useful and worthwhile in a voluntary role. it gives me a sense of satisfaction without being tied down in the way that I’ve often felt when working in a paid role.”
Thank you Ursula for sharing your bike skills at the Repair Café! Your input is much appreciated by us all!
