This week is Volunteers’ Week, and all week we will be celebrating the huge contribution made by volunteers both to the work of Stitched Up and the third sector in general.
Every day we will be sharing the thoughts of our amazing, enthusiastic team of volunteers, who help out with everything from events, workshops, admin and outreach.
First up is Debbie. Debbie is one of our volunteer repair experts, who can be found helping visitors to fix their own bikes at our monthly Manchester Repair Cafe.
Debbie says: “I heard about the Repair Café from Ursula (bike mechanic) and started volunteering because I wanted to practise my bike repairing skills alongside someone who knows more than me. Then Jo started to volunteer too which is wonderful because she has so much experience as a mechanic.”
The most rewarding part of volunteering for Debbie? “The sense of empowerment I see when people learn how to do a repair themselves, whether its mending a flat tyre or changing a bent chainset.”
Thank you Debbie for everything you do to help make Manchester Repair Café a success!
If you’d lke to see Debbie in action and learn to fix your bike for free, our next event is on Saturday 17th June.
